Imagen Awards uczciły swoją 37. edycję triumfem filmów „Encanto”, „Love Victor”, „Selena: la Serie” oraz aktorów: Eugenio Derbez i Ariana Debose, a także przyznaniem nagrody za całokształt twórczości pisarzowi, reżyserowi oraz dramaturgowi Luis Valdez, który był twórcą kinowego hitu „La Bamba”, obchodzącego 35. rocznicę premiery.
Podczas ceremonii, która odbyła się w LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes w Los Angeles, nagrodzony Oscarem film „Encanto” otrzymał nagrodę za najlepszy film na Imagen Awards, a twórcy tego filmu animowanego Disneya, Jared Bush, Byron Howard i Charise Castro Smith podzieliłi się nagrodą dla najlepszego reżysera.
Trofeum dla najlepszego aktora zdobył Eugenio Derbez za rolę nauczyciela muzyki w nagrodzonym Oscarem filmie CODA, a Ariana DeBose otrzymała nagrodę dla najlepszej aktorki za rolę w „West Side Story”.
Derbez nie wziął udziału w gali ze względu na stan zdrowia po upadku, którego doznał kilka tygodni temu, ale dzięki swoim relacjom na Instagramie już podziękował nominowanym, zanim dowiedział się o swoim zwycięstwie.
„Love, Victor” zdobył nagrodę dla najlepszego programu komediowego w primetime, a serial „Selena: La Serie” z udziałem Christiana Serratosa zdobył nagrodę dla najlepszego programu dramatycznego.
Gwatemalski Oscar Isaac zdobył nagrodę dla najlepszego aktora telewizyjnego za „Sceny z życia małżeńskiego (Scenes from a Marriage)” HBO/HBO Max, a Judy Reyes zdobyła nagrodę dla najlepszej aktorki telewizyjnej za „Torn From Her Arms” produkcji Lifetime.
